Character Information
Name: Satoshi
Canon: Pokemon XY&Z
Canon Point: Post Episode 115 of Pokemon XY&Z
Age: 10 years old
History: Link
Personality: It's easy to see how energetic Satoshi is when you first look at him. He's electricity personified, and he doesn't tire easily. This makes him a very strong leader and trainer, which benefit his Pokémon. Unfortunately, this also causes him to hyper-focus on a given situation and that's often misconstrued as stubborn, brash behavior. But I digress, what can you do about a 10 year old with an electric pet mouse?
Satoshi's a very kind person. It's easy for him to befriend even the worst of people. Many of the Pokemon he obtained are because he befriended them first. Gekkouga (Greninja) is a great example, as Gekkouga was extremely picky of his trainers while he was a Keromatsu (Froakie). Once Satoshi showed his willingness to help and fight, regardless of the circumstance, Gekkouga joined and grew with Satoshi. Their bond eventually created "Satoshi-Gekkouga," an evolution shrouded in mystery in the current canon. Not only that, but any time Satoshi wants to train his Pokemon or help them learn a new move, he trains with them. He never stands on the sidelines. With Keromatsu he participates in ninja-like training so he may learn a different move, while with Mijumaru (Oshawott) he helps with strength training so he may lift his heavier shallot easier. Another instance is with Mukubird (Staravia) and occasionally Pikachu, where Satoshi becomes the target for them to hone their moves
However, Satoshi hasn't always been so kind and willing to help. He certainly learned his lesson with Lizardon (Charizard) in the original series. When he first obtained Lizardon as a Hitokage (Charmander), he treated the other with kindness. As the Pokemon evolved, however, Lizardon rarely listened to him or anyone else for that matter. Instead of addressing the issue, Satoshi continued to push Lizardon, and was frustrated how the other disobeyed. It wasn't until much later, after the damage had been done, that Satoshi and Lizardon came to an understanding and how much Satoshi neglected training the other. This lead him to use the training methods he does in the current canon.
Satoshi's goal has changed from the original series. Initially, Satoshi only wanted to catch more Pokemon than his rival, Shigeru (Gary). He since realized what kind of trainer he wants to be, and his dream to be a Pokemon Master changed along with his training ideals. He wants to befriend Pokemon and be their equal opposed to their "Master" or "Owner." That and his selfless mindset that every Pokemon should be treated with kindness and trust have really changed the scope of his Pokemon Master dream.
However, this causes him to trust others too easily. After all, how many times has Team Rocket tricked him with their costumes and schemes? He tends to not think about the behaviors people would ordinarily find suspicious, and just goes along with the flow. This can lead him to misunderstand others as well, because he has a habit of taking things a little bit too literally due to his trusting nature.
Granted, Satoshi really does have a stubborn streak. A perfect example is when he's training with Gekkouga and Pikachu in a small creek despite Serena warning him that it's not a good idea. During a mock-battle he's soaked, and ends up sick the next day. Additionally, when he has an idea in his head, he focuses solely on that, and this can cause him to become rather inconsiderate of others. Even in the original series, Satoshi states he doesn't want a doctor to help Musashi's (Jessie) Arbock when it was sick, because they were a part of Team Rocket. However, he learns that a doctor's job is to heal and not judge others. Though Satoshi has matured, he's still can be inconsiderate of others because of some of his experiences and focused thoughts.
Satoshi is also prone to overconfidence, as well. In some of his battles within XY, he often goes in with the idea that he is going to win, hands down. Though he has pride in his abilities and experience, it leads him to believe that he can’t lose. It usually hits him hard, but he bounces back and figures out a way to change his thinking or methods to overcome the challenge. During his gym battle with Vivian, he went into the battle knowing he was going to win, and very loudly stating as much. However, he had his butt handed to him and had to go nurse his pride before finally finding a strategy to win. Satoshi tends to work best when he has adversity for this exact reason.
However, Satoshi isn’t all flaws; no this kid really is straight as an arrow. He tries very hard to do his best no matter what activity he’s interested in (which can be a lot all at once). In XY, and some of XY&Z, he shows excited interest in many activities, such as Sihorn (Rhyhorn) racing, Meecle (Skiddo) racing and even some video making in the Kalos region. This leans more towards how he’s matured as well, given that Satoshi typically stayed on the same path within the other series. Over time, Satoshi has learned to become a racer, a contest participant and even a cosplay contest participant!
That being said, his over excitement can lead him to skip steps or move forward too quickly, which can make him a little impatient. During his training with Sanpei, a ninja who had a Gekogashira (Frogadier), Satoshi pushes ahead to only keep up with Sanpei, not considering staying with his Keromatsu (Froakie) and training with him, which was the whole point to begin with. He learns, however, to slow down when prompted or he does something that ends up forcing him to realize he needs to slow down.
Overall, Satoshi is selfless kid who has learned to be kinder to the people who may not deserve it, even the Pokémon who may not either. Additionally, he may have moments where he pushes too hard or even gives into his own pride, but he opens his mind and learns that sometimes, slowing down is the best way to move forward.
Abilities: Satoshi is a pretty clear-cut kid, he’s energetic and doesn’t tire too easily. However, he has been shown to have some kind of athletic/acrobatic ability, given that he is able to jump from high places and land easily (or flip so he can land easily) as well as jump from tree to tree like a little monkey. This is likely due to the fact that he trains physically with his Pokémon, thus allowing him to have a good athletic endurance.
Additionally, as a trainer, Satoshi is able to think quickly on his feet and remember past experiences to use them in battle. He is quick witted enough to spot where he can use the move and execute it easily. That’s not to say he doesn’t need the practice; no, he sometimes needs to train up to the point of being able to use the move. That being said, he works better under pressure.
Strengths:
Kind
Earnest
Energetic
Selfless
Friendly
Weaknesses:
Prideful
Overconfident
Brash/Reckless
Stubborn
Impatient
God/Shinki: Shinki
Why?: Due to the fact that he is ten, Satoshi would be better suited to working for a God, as he doesn’t have many life experiences that would help him in that kind of endeavor. Additionally, he works better when he has a goal to go towards, and with being a God he wouldn’t be able to focus on a goal. Satoshi can maintain a better focus when he has something to work towards or for.
Cause Of Death: During episode 115, Satoshi becomes very ill due to training in a river at night with his Gekkouga. In the episode he recovered quickly after receiving medicine. For the purposes of this setting, he did not get better after the medicine and passed away.
Vessel: Satochu; In the episode “A Huge Transformation with Pokemon Magic?!” [DUB: Hocus Pokemon], Satoshi is changed into a Pikachu. As from the picture, he looks very much like his Pikachu, but with his eyes and a little bit a fringes for his hair. He will not have his trademark hat, however.
Name Location: As Satoshi often uses his arms when he is battling to point and move with his pokemon, his name will be on his right forearm.
Power:Lightning/Electricity Manipulation given his vessel form is of Pikachu/Satochu
